(ECNS) -- The agricultural industrial park in Shache County of Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region has built 3000 intelligent greenhouses in the Gobi Desert, greatly boosting farming efficiency。
The greenhouses are equipped with intelligent ventilation systems, intelligent temperature control, water and fertilizer proportioning machines。
Wei Xingya, head of the industrial park, said that compared with traditional cultivation, intelligent planting can save more than 90 percent of water and fertilizer。
The Internet of Things terminal is connected to farmers’ mobile phones while the computers in the park service center are linked to each greenhouse, which can be monitored in real time。 The alarm will be raised when there is a lack of water and fertilizer, so the necessary adjustments could be made remotely。
“What used to take two hours can now be done in 10 minutes, ” said a farmer in Shache County。
Shache is known for its vast expanse of desert and lack of arable land, at only about 1,300 square meters per capita。 To help improve local incomes, the county government decided to make full use of the area and the abundance of sunlight in the desert。 It began working with an agricultural company to build a modern agro-industrial park covering an area of 1,333 hectares。
The park has also provided 3,000 jobs, with average annual salaries of more than 30,000 yuan ($4,710)。
